News: The left back came on for the closing minutes of the 3-1 defeat by his former team, Tottenham, at White Hart Lane in the FA Cup, his first appearance for the senior team since March after a cruciate ligament injury.
Analysis: Wigan have been solid enough defensively to suggest that there is no need to take out Maynor Figueroa from the left-back berth yet. Edman has work to do.

News: The left back played 37 minutes in Wigan's 2-1 reserve-team victory against Middlesbrough in his first action since tearing a cruciate ligament in March. "The plan was to take it really easy," Edman, who has also had a slight hamstring problem recently, said.
Analysis: Maynor Figeuroa has done a solid job at left back and Edman sounds a little way away from making a first-team comeback so there's no need to pick up the Swede as lower-tier back-up just yet.

News: The left back has returned to light training as he continues his rehabilitation from a knee ligament injury.
Analysis: Edman's fantasy curve has been heading steadily downwards since his 40-yard goal for Tottenham Hotspur against Liverpool in 2005. A return to the Wigan defence would do little to change that trend.
